Bryn James

Bryn is a physicist who has spent his career investigating the interaction of externally applied forces with solid matter. He started his career in UK industry, undertaking R&D in piezoelectric devices for very high stability frequency references and devices for military and space applications. He joined MOD as a Senior Research Officer investigating ceramic armour. He has worked in armour systems for the last 20 years and has contributed many papers to relevant International Symposia.
Bryn is a Senior Fellow in Dstl and is the Technical Leader of the Dstl Physical Protection Group. He is the National Leader for collaboration on armour with the USA and is the Head of the Armour & Protection Science & Technology centre. He initiated and led the programme for operational support in armour and protection for Operation Telic and Operation Herrick. For this he was awarded an MOD Chief Scientific Adviser’s commendation.
